Three Types of Water Damage

5/11/2018 (Permalink)

Residents of Pikeville, Prestonsburg, Martin, and Hindman: water damage happens when we least expect it. Almost everyone has had some type of water damage from the smallest faucet leak to a bathtub overflowing to a washer hose mix-up. What you may not know; however, is there are three different categories of water damage.

Here are the differences in the categories of water:

Category 1: This water comes from a sanitary source and poses no real threat (examples: tub or sink overflow.)

Category 2: Refers to water that can contain chemical and biological contaminants that can cause sickness when consumed. Also, known as grey water (examples: toilet bowl water and sump pump failure.)

Category 3: This water has harmful agents such as bacteria and fungi. This type of water can cause extreme sickness and discomfort. Also, known as black water (examples: river, sewage, rising waters from floods, or standing water.)

SERVPRO is an IICRC Certified Firm, so we can determine what category of water is it, and how to best cleanup your water damage. Call SERVPRO® of Pike, Floyd, & Knott Counties to clean up your water damage and make it "Like it never even happened."
